If your power locks work but keyless entry doesn’t, it usually means the mechanical lock system is fine, but the remote control system isn’t communicating properly. The most common causes are:
1. Dead or weak key fob battery
- This is the #1 cause.
- Even if the LED on the fob lights up, the battery can still be too weak to transmit a proper signal.
- Try replacing the coin cell battery (often CR2032 or CR2025).
2. Key fob lost synchronization
- The fob may need to be reprogrammed or resynced with the car.
- This can happen after battery changes or electrical glitches.
3. Faulty key fob
- Buttons may still “click” but the internal transmitter can fail.
- Water damage or drops are common causes.
4. Car receiver/antenna issue
- The vehicle’s keyless entry receiver (or body control module) may not be picking up the signal.
- Less common, but possible if other electronics are acting weird.
5. Fuse or wiring issue (keyless system only)
- The central locking works via wiring/door switch, but the remote system may be on a separate fuse.
- A blown fuse can disable remote entry while leaving manual locks fine.
Quick checks you can do:
- Try your spare key fob (if it works → original fob issue).
- Replace the battery in the fob.
- Lock/unlock manually and see if all doors respond normally.
- Check if the car responds at all (lights flash? no response?).
